Los intentos mundiales para paliar los efectos del cambio climático no divisan una solución creíble a medio plazo; las fechas van caducando como si de una obsolescencia muy bien calculada y programada y nada termina por cambiar.

Estados y empresas privadas promueven investigaciones para atenuar esta emergencia climática en busca de nuevos productos industrializados no contaminantes, con una huella de carbono ínfima, reciclados y recuperables para poderlos usar de nuevo en futuras construcciones. El ciclo de vida, la descarbonización, los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, el 0% de consumo energético en los denominados Edificios de Consumo Casi Nulo (ECCN), etc. (…)

Entre productos y objetivos cuantificables la arquitectura queda en el olvido y, en este globalizante panorama científico-técnico, surgen varias preguntas ¿qué puede aportar la arquitectura? ¿ha sido la arquitectura sensible al medioambiente en cada época según sus conocimientos y las necesidades climática del cada momento? ¿es posible aprender de las arquitecturas construidas una forma útil y eficiente de actuar frente a la emergencia climática? ¿o solo es cuestión de aplicar productos y cumplir objetivos técnicos y medibles? ¿dónde está la arquitectura?

(…) Construyendo con los recursos naturales de la zona -la tierra o la madera-, haciendo de la naturaleza una cultura y una tradición en la que sustentarse, podrían considerarse hoy arquitecturas respetuosas con el medioambiente y derivar en un aprendizaje eficaz frente al cambio climático

(…) Este nuevo número de PpA (26) quiere reivindicar la arquitectura como disciplina útil y necesaria para el cambio climático.«

Global attempts to mitigate the effects of climate change have no credible medium-term solution in sight; the dates are expiring in a very well calculated and programmed obsolescence and nothing ends up changing.

States and private companies are promoting research to mitigate this climate emergency in search of new non-polluting industrialized products, with a tiny carbon footprint, recycled and recoverable so that they can be used again in future constructions. The life cycle, decarbonization, the Sustainable Development Goals, 0% energy consumption in the so-called Nearly Zero Energy Consumption Buildings (NECB), etc. (…)

Between products and quantifiable objectives, architecture is forgotten and, in this globalizing scientific-technical panorama, several questions arise: what can the architecture contributes? has architecture been sensitive to the environment in each era according to its knowledge and the climatic needs of the time? is it possible to learn from built architecture a useful and efficient way of acting in the face of the climatic emergency? or is it only a question of applying products and fulfilling technical and measurable objectives? Where is the architecture?

(…) Building with the natural resources of the area – earth or wood – and making of nature a culture and a tradition on which to stan, they could be considered today as environmentally friendly architectures and lead to effective learning against climate change. (…) In this 25th call of PpA, articles aimed at contributing to the common space in architecture, in its various scales and uses, from the gates of residents to the territory, will be welcomed.»
